Lina Jimenez Mejia
Born and raised in Colombia, Lina graduated from Escuela de Ingeniería de Antioquia (EIA) in Civil Engineering in 2003, and from EAFIT with a certificate in construction management in 2006. During an internship at C.A.S.A., a construction firm, she was assigned to help with structure construction. Soon after, she was reassigned to help in the creation of the customization department of the company. Not only did she develop the program to manage the changes made by each of the customers, she also met with the buyers to set up the budget and coordinated with the construction site on how to turn the buyers’ wishes into a reality. After working with buyers, Lina returned to the construction sites to learn about the finished stages of the apartments. She was then moved to the budget department to analyze the budget controls that the different construction sites sent to the company headquarters. To make her job more efficient, Lina created programs to organize the various information available. While Lina worked for C.A.S.A., she was finishing her bachelor’s degree. She never stopped working until she came to the U.S. in 2012 to study English in order to apply for graduate school.
