Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Rafael interned at UBS during his studies at the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University – Rio. After UBS acquired a local investment bank, Rafael moved to São Paulo and became an associate director of the largest investment bank of Latin America, BTG Pactual. In 2011, he moved to New York to work for the same firm.
Responsible for the legal aspects of infrastructure and real estate deals at the fixed income legal department, Rafael became an expert in Brazilian rules and regulations for real estate finance and structured real estate related financial instruments, structured products, investment vehicles and credit transactions.
Working in the legal area of real estate, he developed quite a valuable expertise, which he later used to start his own real estate firm. Rafael’s firm is currently taking advantage of the incredible Brazilian economic growth and is developing several multi-family buildings in the middle-class neighborhoods of his hometown.
Pursuing the Master of Science in Real Estate Development at the MIT Center for Real Estate is the best path Rafael can follow to deepen his knowledge in real estate financial analysis and development and to establish the company he owns as a beacon for international and local investors.
Rafael speaks Portuguese and English and enjoys playing tennis, snowboarding, swimming and running.
