Danya Sherman is managing all aspects of the STL Case Study Initiative, including overseeing the creation of a new multimedia software platform, creating eight case studies, and developing a production team to work with MIT faculty teams to create the cases. 

Danya is a program director, consultant, writer and researcher with a passion for starting, sustaining, and improving innovative and impactful initiatives in urban development, education, and the arts. Over the past ten years, she has created and lead collaborative and effective programs in the non-profit, public, and academic sectors, initiated unexpected teams and partnerships, and advised organizations and foundations.

In addition to her work with the STL Lab, she is currently a consultant to ArtPlace America and others, a contributing writer for Next City, and starting a project called Engines of Culture to build cultural activity on and around rail infrastructure in the US. Danya worked with Friends of the High Line from January 2007 – June 2013, where she founded and built the Public Programs, Education, and Community Engagement Department. She has led and consulted on projects with Project Row Houses (Houston, TX), the MIT Community Innovators Lab, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, PolicyLink, Warwick Junction Market (Durban, South Africa), and more.

Danya has a Bachelor’s in Science in Society from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) and a Master’s in City Planning from MIT.
