Bogota, Colombia
B.S., Civil Engineering & Management, Universidad De Los Andes

Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Alberto arrives at MIT with 6 plus years of experience in multi-family construction and project management of large-scale housing developments. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes, and has been actively involved in the development and construction of mass low-income housing projects around Colombia.

Alberto worked for Obycon, a local construction industry leader, where he was able to identify that the most efficient way to achieve positive impacts in urban communities is through housing master plans while effecting policy on vaster land use, under a centralized framework. As Project Manager, he spearheaded among others, the execution and delivery of more than 700 units of Colombia´s free housing program aimed to reduce the housing deficit in underdeveloped rural regions struck by armed conflict.

Alberto joins the MSRED program determined to further deepen his knowledge in affordable housing models from a sustainable city development perspective, addressing the evident gaps in housing policy formulation and the challenges facing the private sector’s strategic deployment. He aims to gain insight on how to extend vulnerable population’s access to housing on a larger scale while broadening his understanding of real estate finance as it relates to the multidisciplinary facets of the built environment.

When free, Alberto enjoys playing tennis, volleyball, and soccer, or reading a good book.
