John returns to the United States to attend MIT after starting his career in Europe in 2010. Shortly after graduating from the University of Virginia, John moved to France to work with Value Retail – an owner, developer and operator of luxury retail outlets in Europe and China.
With Value Retail in Paris for three years, John coordinated the remerchandising strategy for a 230,000 square foot shopping center and let and opened more than 50 stores. After, John worked between Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai and facilitated the letting, opening and early operational management of Value Retail’s first projects in China, in the city of Suzhou and at Shanghai Disney Resort.
Most recently, in London, John worked as Chief of Staff to the Managing Director of Value Retail PLC, introducing management and decision-making structures across Value Retail, coordinating the site assembly, planning, design, construction and opening of phase expansions and managing capital upgrades. At the same time he launched the development of a masterplan for Value Retail’s recently expanded, flagship asset, Bicester Village.
At MIT, John is eager to broaden his exposure to real estate sectors beyond retail, establish a strong foundation in real estate finance and development, and specialize in areas of entrepreneurship and adaptive reuse.
John enjoys cooking, mountain climbing and visiting new cities with a camera at the ready. Having only recently learned how to ride a bicycle, John looks forward to cycling around Cambridge and making up for a lost childhood on two-wheels.
